Crispy Hot Honey Tofu Bowls (High-Fiber, High-Protein, No Sad Desk Lunches)
There’s a point — especially over 40 — where you realize the goal isn’t to eat less, it’s to eat better.
There’s a point — especially over 40 — where you realize the goal isn’t to eat less, it’s to eat better. Better texture. Better balance. Better meals that actually keep you full and energized instead of thinking about snacks an hour later.
This crispy hot honey tofu bowl is one of those recipes I come back to again and again. It’s crunchy, spicy-sweet, deeply satisfying, and quietly doing a lot of good things for your blood sugar and digestion without feeling like “health food.”
And the secret? I tear the tofu instead of cutting it. Those jagged edges create way more surface area, which means maximum crispiness in the air fryer. Once you try it, there’s no going back.
Hot Honey Crispy Tofu High-Fiber Bowl
Serves 1
Ingredients
Crispy Torn Tofu
1/2 block extra-firm tofu, pressed
1½ tbsp avocado oil
1½ tbsp coconut aminos
1 tbsp cornstarch, arrowroot or tapioca starch
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp smoked paprika
Fresh cracked black pepper
Hot Honey Glaze
2 tbsp hot honey
1 tsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
Bowl Base
1 cup rice of choice (I used Kaizen’s high protein and low carb rice, you can use regular rice or cauliflower rice)
½ cup shelled edamame (thawed if frozen)
½ cup cucumbers (I used my spicy cucumbers)
1/2 avocado, sliced
Simple Hot Honey Tahini
2 parts tahini
1 part hot honey
Water, to thin
Instructions
1. Press the tofu
Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Place it on a plate, set something heavy on top (a skillet or cutting board with cans), and let it press for 15–20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
This step is what allows the tofu to get crispy.
2. Tear + crisp
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
Tear the pressed tofu into rustic chunks — don’t overthink it. Add to a bowl and toss with avocado oil, coconut aminos, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and starch until evenly coated.
Air fry for 12 - 15 minutes, shaking halfway, until deeply golden and crisp around the edges.
3. Hot honey glaze
Warm the hot honey and vinegar in a small saucepan over low heat just until combined.
Transfer the crispy tofu to a bowl and gently toss with the glaze just to coat — you want flavor without losing the crunch.
4. Build the bowl
Add your rice to your bowl and top with edamame, cucumbers, avocado, and hot honey tofu.
5. Simple hot honey tahini
Whisk together tahini and hot honey (2:1), then thin with water until drizzleable. Spoon lightly over the bowl.
How I Think About Bowls Like This Now
I’m not afraid of carbs.
I’m not chasing low-calorie meals.
And I’m definitely not interested in food that looks good but leaves me hungry.
What I am intentional about is:
Pairing protein with fiber
Adding healthy fats
Creating meals that feel abundant and satisfying
That’s how I eat to feel my best in my 50s — not restrictive, just smarter.
If tofu has ever felt boring to you, this is the version that changes minds.
Save it. Make it once. Then start building your own variations around the crispy tofu base all week long.
